Hitt Wash Sand Removal

Crossing Hitt Wash on Las Vegas Ranch Road during runoff is sometimes problematic.  After years of repeated runoffs and the subsequent clearing of sand from the road, sand has accumulated on the downstream side of the crossing.  This sand barrier impedes the flow of water during runoffs and results in increased pooling and deep sand on the road.  Removing this sand barrier should mitigate the problem, at least for a few years.

In exchange for the sand, a local contractor has agreed to supply the equipment and manpower to remove the excess sand and create flow channels downstream of the crossing.  This work will occur over one or two days in the next week or two, weather permitting. The work will be confined to the Hitt Wash sand-filled stream-bed within the road easement with a modest intrustion into the Hitt Wash Open Space easement.  The sand will be transported by multiple dump truck runs 3.1 miles south of Camp Wood Road to the ranch facility under construction on Las Vegas Ranch Road.  To facilitate a safe crossing of Camp Wood road and to protect our gates and keypads, the Camp Wood gates (both sides) will stay open while the work is ongoing.

We will send another alert when we have a confirmed date.  If you need sand and have a way to transport it, come on down when the work is ongoing.
